Is that guy in the center holding a movie camera, do you think, or is that some sort of surveying equipment?
What do the symbols on the rear side mean; what unit is that?

It's most likely that officer is holding a movie camera as for the markings on the back the one on the left is the division symbol the bear division and the other is probably the battalion or regimental marking.

it's definitely a camera.
several units had reporters with them. especially in Russia!

Both the black bear on the white shield and the inverted 'Y' with two strokes are markings of the 3rd Panzer Division. The 'Y' symbol in yellow was the official marking from June 1941. Have a nice clear picture of an Sd Kfz 250/3 with both markings, but I cannot scan it because the book (Wehrmacht Divisional Signs 1938-1945 by Theodor Hartmann, Almark Publishing, 1972) is now too fragile.
