German propaganda postcard by artist Willi Bier, dated 1938. The English Lion takes the rest of the Allies over a cliff in this anti-Allied allegory of the Czech crisis of '38. Note Czech flag held by US soldier, French and Czech(?) politicians, "a Jew", bags of money, etc. What does the caption mean?

Staatskarrosse mean 'State car/truck/van'
'Wahrheit siegt' means 'the truth will be victorious'

Ah! In English we have the phrase "Ship of State" referring to how the nation moves through the 'waters of international diplomacy' or somesuch. This is a "cart of state" in the same sense (going over a cliff in the German view.) If this were a US political or opinion cartoon, it'd show a canoe, maybe, going over a waterfall.

This is one of a series of several, perhaps 6, postcards with similar colors and a map theme. Published by Brend'amour, Simpart & Co., Munich, in their "Greater Germany" series. This one shows the Sudeten Germans 'thanking their Leader' and a map of the Sudetenland in what is now the Czech Republic.

5 examples of German government-issued postcards from the 1930s and early '40s. This first one asks for 'struggle, work and sacrifice' from the people in a 'Winter Help Campaign'. The image of the can is the official one for the WHW, and can be seen on at least one of the posters above. Who hasn't heard "Strength through Joy"? German workers were given the opportunity to go on cruises from time to time. Here is a postcard for one such from 1938. Workers paradise, indeed! Speaking of workers, here's the Leader himself helping to build the autobahn! Mailed October, 1936. This card shows an image of the Brandenburg Gate and the imprinted stamp has both the old and new Leaders--Hitler benefited from Hindenburg's help in the early/mid '30s. National Holiday postcard from 1934. Thanks to you-know-who, the workers got a day off! Powerful propaganda message and images.

This is an nice real photo postcad showing Sepp Dietrich, Hitler and Himmler at some sort of review or ceremony. The more interesting part is the message on the back! "We got out of Germany in a hurry the day before the border was closed and are waiting this crisis out in Holland. Maggie and Herbert . . . were with us having motored from Rapallo--they are now in Copenhagen. . ." Make me wonder how long they were in Holland and Denmark and how/if/when they got out of Europe! Card is mailed to US. It's very interesting, too, that the sender would still use such an image after having fled a country.

German Art Day, Tag Der Deutschen Kunst, 1938. The Nazis show-cased their definition of what German art was at special exhibitions. This is a postcard of the 1938 show mailed from Munich to Corvalis Oregon. Here's what the back looks like with the special exhibit cancel.
